Group Exercise Classes are designed to meet various fitness levels. Monthly schedules
are available at the front desk. Classes are 55 minutes unless otherwise stated. Approximately 40 classes are offered each month, and they are free to members. Program participant pay $28 for 8 visits or $36 for 12 visits (must take the classes within 1 year of purchase). Among the offerings:
Studio A Classes
Gentle Stretch Join this chair-based and chair-supported 30 minute class using yoga style stretches to gently work toward flexibility and strength.Excellent for those who would like to try the benefits of a gentle but challenging Yoga practice without getting down on the floor. Instructor: Marsha Pillet.
Nia classes with Anya will be starting again on Monday, January 14 at 9:30 am, in Studio A. Nia is an innovative cardiovascular fitness program that engages the body, mind and spirit while embracing individual creativity and self-empowerment. Done to uplifting music, Nia is holistic in that it blends movement forms from the healing arts, martial arts, and dance arts. Nia redefines getting fit and healthy by moving with mindfulness, comfort, passion, and pleasure. Participants will come away from this class rejuvenated, joyful,
and in their bodies.Please wear clothing that allows freedom of movement.
Pace “People with Arthritis Can Exercise” A class offered to individuals with arthritis that still allows you to exercise using special props.
Pilates A This is an introduction to the series of fundamental exercises that are essential for safe, effective performance in the next level Pilates class. This is where stabilization before mobilization is learned. The Pilates sequence is also introduced in this class.
Pilates B This is the next step in building a stronger mind and body awareness. More challenging exercises are introduced using control to create a stabilized flow. Props may be used for an additional challenge.
Vinyasa Yoga This style of yoga links poses together in a flowing series that warms and energizes the body in an aerobic practice. This type of flow features cardiovascular conditioning, functional strength, flexibility, muscle balancing and relaxation.
Yoga Basics This is an introductory Yoga class, helping to familiarize you with yoga moves and terminology. A great prerequisite to any yoga class.
“Y” Weight This class is designed for adult individuals who have never exercised before or have not exercised regularly for a while. This class includes a warm-up, cool down, stretching and 30 minutes of very basic cardiovascular and strength training.
Studio B Classes
Cardio Boxing A high intensity cardiovascular workout using jabs and kicks along with drills to improve strength and speed. Recommended for intermediate to advanced participants.
Cardio-Core This class will give 30 minutes of cardio and 25 minutes of core stabilizing/
abdominal strengthening exercises.
Cardio/Tag This class is designed so that you can get in a 30 minute workout and get on with your day or stay and do the 2nd 1/2 of class for a killer thighs, abs, and glutes workout.
Step/Tag same as above, except Step is done for the first half.
Circuit Training An excellent class for most fitness levels. This class will incorporate
approx. 2-5 minutes of cardio work alternated with 1-2 minutes of strength training. A full body workout.
Cross Training An energizing class full of sports-related exercises, including plyometrics.
This is a class for the intermediate to advanced participant.
Double Trouble Cardio class that will include two of the following classes in 25 minute increments: Cardio Boxing, Cycling, Step and Hi/Lo- no strength work included.
Fit For Life For those who want to work at a slower pace. A great workout for the mature adult and individuals just starting an exercise program.
Low Impact A class that minimizes stress on the lower body but still gives you an intense workout.
Muscle Max Introduction This class is for those new to weight training. You will learn proper weight training techniques using weights, body bars, bands, etc… Abdominal work will be included along with functional fitness moves.
Muscle Max A strength and conditioning class using bars, balls, weights, and resistance bands. All major muscle groups are worked.
Pedal-N-Pump Get a total body workout with 45 minutes of cycling followed by 30 minutes of strength and abdominal work. This class is for a variety of intermediate to advanced fitness levels.
Rep Reebok This is a pre-choreographed, group strength training program designed to use free weights and barbells.
Senior Wellnes This one-hour class meets three times a week for ages 50 and above that includes strength training and flexibility exercieses for seniors. At the end of four weeks members can have a personalized routine made up by a certified personal fitness trainer. Members can continue working out with the group at the end of four weeks. Meets Tuesday, Thursday and Staurday, 11-12.
Spinning (Basic) This class is designed just like our spinning class, only less intense and shorter in duration for those new to spinning. You'll learn proper bike set-up, spinning terminology and instruction on proper riding form. Will begin in the fall.
Spinning A high intensity, non-impact, cardiovascular workout performed to music on a specially designed stationary bike. An instructor will take you on a physical and psychological journey, simulating a ride with hills and valleys. This is a great calorie burner
*Basic Step This is a 45 minute class for beginner “steppers.” This class will include a warm-up, cool down, and approximately 35 minutes of basic stepping.
Step “Abs”press For step enthusiasts who want a longer cardiovascular workout with challenging combinations. Approximately 45 minutes of step with 10 minutes of abdominal
work.
Step Choice The instructor will choose from the “step” schedule to provide a fun and energetic class.
Step-N-Shape This step class includes both cardio followed by strength and abdominal work.
TriBlendSpin: Come try 3 tides in one class then stay to pratice cycling specific yoga poses to help elongate muscles, release tension, deepen the breath and improve posture.
Triple Effect An all cardio class that will include three of the following classes in 15 minute increments: Cardio Boxing, Cycling, Step and Hi/Lo - no strength work included.
Y Tri This 90 minutes class is designed for the individual who loves multisports. It is comprised of cycling, running and swimming. Be prepared to challenge yourself physically and mentally.
Zumba A fusion of Latin and International music that creates a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system. Come join the party and dance, dance, dance. See you there.
Zumba Gold A fitness program designed to take the exciting Latin and International dance rhythms to active older adults, the beginner participants and other special populations that may need modifications for success. It's a Party. Come give it a try.
Off-Site Classes
Fitness Bootcamp an (old school) style of training combined with new school (cross-training and circuit training). Roughly 50% cardiovascular and 50% strength exercises,
each week the intensity increases. A reasonable level of cardiovascular endurance is required before beginning this program (run one mile without stopping). Morning Crew offers classes at the YMCA while the Night Crew normally meets at Gypsy Hill Park, Lee High School or Mary Baldwin.
Trail Blazers running group that meets at Montgomery Hall Park, Tuesday nights at 5:30pm.
