Staunton-Augusta YMCA Internship Program:

Staunton-Augusta YMCA, is accepting applications from undergraduate and graduate level students for internships. Each candidate must submit a professional resume, along with three references who may be contacted by the center.  The candidate must also complete an interview with the Fitness Director or Program Director.

The Staunton-Augusta YMCA is a 49,301 sq. ft. facility that services approximately 6,000 members in the Augusta County area.  Interns from undergraduate and graduate programs are accepted from a variety of majors, including: leisure services/recreation, community recreation, exercise physiology, exercise science, sports management, kinesiology, etc

Student interns are given the responsibility to identify one major or two minor projects to initiate, implement and evaluate during their internship in addition to exposure to all the elements of the day-to-day operations of a large non-profit community health and fitness facility. CPR certification is required and other certifications in group exercise or personal training (AFFA, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, etc.) are recommended.

The internship offers challenging opportunities for hands-on experiences, building skills, and being part of a professional collaborative team environment. Comprehensive training includes fitness testing, exercise prescription, one-on-one and group focused exercise leadership, health and wellness promotion, incentive program design, implementation and evaluation, and facility supervision. Interns are afforded the opportunity to develop in their areas of interest.

Interns will be assigned a supervisor who best fits with their major and goals for the internship. Internships are available for fall, spring and summer. Interns will be considered a regular member of the YMCA staff, thereby assuming the same level of responsibility and performance accountability.
